NYC Meeting - 10/10/2011 - Mongo DB and PowerShell 3.0 - Justin Dearing

This is going to be a huge meeting!!!  We're breaking format so that we have enough time for all of the killer content.

The night will kick off with Rich Prescott and Tome Tanasovski doing a live demo and talk about what's new in both the CTP of PowerShell 3.0 as well as the PowerShell 3.0 and modules that shipped with Windows 8.  We will have a few laptops loaded with Windows 8 and PowerShell 3.0 so that you can see the interface and ask questions.

Our headliner, Justin Dearing, will lead a presentation into the world of Mongo DB, a document oriented database that has enterprise features like automatic partitioning (sharding) across multiple servers.  Mongo DB is a schema-less non-relational database. Powershell is a dynamic scripting language that gives you all the power of COM, WMI and the .NET framework. Thanks to the official 10gen C# driver, you can combine the two.  Come see how you can use PowerShell to consume and send data to a modern scalable and flexible document-based database system that is used by Foursquare, Craigslist, Source Forge, Etsy, and Disney.

Justin Dearing has been involved in the IT industry since 2002. In his career, he has served on both the operations and development sides of the house. He has made small improvements to windows support of the MongoDB core server. He was also given early access to the MongoDB C# driver, which he thoroughly tested by writing one of the first production websites to use it, contributing a few patches along the way. His interests soon turned to automating his servers with Powershell, which lead to him combining MongoDB and Powershell for pure awesomeness.

Justin is a blogger, .Net developer, and a contributer to Just a Programmer.  Justin is a well known #PowerShell twitter-er who goes by the handle @zippy1981.
