Support group for PowerShell users, scripters, and developers in the Atlanta Metropolitan area.
Well, the 2nd Edition of Lee Holmes' book Windows PowerShell Cookbook is now available in print. How do I know? I just received several copies to give away at our next live event! However, in the meantime, we're having a party! Feel free to drop by IRC and ask questions -- I've got to see if I can trick Lee into showing up in person, but in the meantime we've got a bunch of other people online who can answer questions about PowerShell (or about the book), and a fun giveaway.
I talked to Lee today, and it turns out I have these copies of the book even before he got his copy. Since August 31st is the actual launch date, he's agreed to come around to IRC around 9PM Eastern next Tuesday to chat and answer questions. To make it even more fun, we're going to give away a copy or two of the book during that chat! Don't miss it!
Due to my work schedule and with everyone getting their kids back to school we are going to skip the August meeting and pick it back up in September. Sorry about the late notice and keep up the scripting. :)
Thanks,
Mark
The July meeting of the Atlanta PowerShell User Group will be all about Jobs and Remoting. The presentation will be presented by Aaron Nelson, aka SQLVariant.
Some of the items covered include:
Speaker BIO:
Did you know that the O'Reilly store sells books by other publishers? They sell MS Press, No Starch Press, Pragmatic Bookshelf, and more. Why do I mention this? Because they have a discount for our user group members: just use the code DSUG when you're checking out to get 40% off of any book, and 50% off eBooks (which they make available in ePub, PDF, and MOBI formats).
Our June meeting will be all about PowerShell Profiles. Mark Schill will be demoing his profile. Some of the key concepts that he will be covering include:
- aliases
- one-liner functions
- other functions
- setting prompt
- env vars
- "configuring your environment"
- sync/roam across machines
- modular (dot-source or import) vs monolithic (all in one file)
If you have any cool tips/tricks that you use in your profile and would like to share, email them to Mark.Schill@cmschill.net.
As I mentioned at the last meeting you can request a review copy of any book available from O'Reilly including Microsoft Press books. Here is a URL for the PowerShell books; http://search.oreilly.com/?q=powershell, but your request does not have to be PowerShell related at all. Here are the requirements.

The inaugural meeting of the Atlanta PowerShell User Group will be held on Tuesday March 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. You can sign up now at http://powershellgroup.org/atlanta.ga.
I just wanted to let you all know ... if you have a user group or script club hosted here on PowerShellGroup.org, you can create forum threads (like this one) for discussion!
We can also set up private group email discussion/announcement lists for you, with an address @PowerShellGroup.org (eg: Rochester@PowerShellGroup.org or Tampa@PowerShellGroup.org, etc.)
We also allow attachments on posts, but there's unfortunately a size limit imposed by our PHP server, so if you need to upload larger files, we can set up your administrator with an FTP account so you can upload larger files like user group presentations, recordings, etc.
